Frequently Asked Questions
Chiropractic neurology is a post-doctorate program in the field of neurology that diagnoses and applies functional therapies to increase the outcome of neurological disorders, such as: Autism, ADD, ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome, vertigo, OCD, anxiety, depression, addiction, Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, tics, tremors and other movement disorders.
Functional Neurology uses a variety of tools including eye exercises, vestibular rehabilitation, brain-based therapies, chiropractic manipulations, Nerve Stimulation, and sensory input to fire up the nervous system, brain pathway to project properly, which can restore or greatly improve function even for chronic disorders. It also allows the patient to learn how to keep the brain young and active, so they can prevent future injuries or difficulties.
Of course! We can provide a wide variety of adjusting techniques to address localized body pain. Remember, we don’t just treat the spine. If you have neck pain, back pain, shoulder, hip, wrist, or ankle pain, we will try our best to help you!
The brain works and thrives on receptors or sensory input from touch, sound, light, smell, joint mechanics, the vestibular system, and verbal cognition to name a few. So we can use any one of these or a combination to promote neural plasticity or to reconnect proper brain function.
In the initial exam, the doctors spend two full hours to thoroughly examine your medical history, perform an in-depth bedside neurological and orthopedic examination, and administer other diagnostic tests that are applicable to your case. These bedside neurological tests help us better understand how your cortex, brainstem, basal ganglia, cerebellum, and many other parts of your nervous system are functioning.
In essence, we are trying to put pieces of a puzzle together so that we can provide the best care that is specific to your case. Everyone that comes in will have a Saccadometer test performed to analyze the efficiency of fast eye movement. The visual system is one of the body’s systems that essentially utilizes almost every aspect of brain function. That’s why we spend so much time looking at your eyes! With time permitting we almost always provide therapeutic procedures at the end of the visit and will give you exercises to take home. It is essential that we perform a complete and thorough physical examination in which different areas of the nervous system are tested and challenged at the appropriate level. We must also strive to understand the meaning of the results obtained from a neurological and functional perspective. The level of response obtained during the physical examination is used to assess the level of activity in a certain area of the nervous system and to later gauge the effectiveness of treatment.
We use every follow up appointment as a means to re-evaluate and monitor progress. We need to see if the treatment provided by the doctors and the prescribed exercises are making improvements and perform similar tests to monitor change. Most follow up appointments last 20-40 minutes.
It depends on the condition that we are treating, but the average neurological case is 20-40 minutes, and the traditional chiropractic visit is 20 minutes.
The patient’s diagnoses and neuronal state dictates the number of visits needed. On average, the total number of patient visits is between 6-12 visits. Many of our patients are so satisfied with their results that they return for check-ups throughout the year to ensure optimal health and balance.
Our initial exam is a full neurological exam that takes up to two hours and costs $350. Each follow-up visit starts at $160.00 per visit.
